Healing Service Information
What Happens During a Healing Service?
Emanuel Church hosts healing services 4-6 times a year. These take place immediately after worship and are usually held the last Sunday of the month when one is scheduled. The pastor and elders invite those seeking healing to remain in the sanctuary after the postlude. The pastor opens with prayer, and participants are invited to the chancel one at a time to speak their concern. Oil of annointing is potional to be placed on the forehead as a sign of God's healing presence, and the pastor and elders lay hands on the participant in prayer.
Healing services at Emanuel carry a different understanding than what one may see on television. Participants who seek relief from burdens they carry due to physical or emotional affliction, a strained relationship, or on behalf of someone else are invited to ask for healing with the understanding that God is somehow already present in the midst of that affliction, relationship, or their loved one's life. Spiritual healing is what is most emphasized during these services.
On the Sundays that a healing service is scheduled, the pastor will need to cut the greeting line short in order to prepare for these responsibilities and to ensure that all those wishing to stay have a short wait. Thank you for your understanding.
